Just re-installed W2000, (having to use a firewall as viruses stopped me
downloading the system update) managed to do the security updates, then I
find that I'm unable to get a Windows Update,

I ask the website to, then it jsut stops at 0% with the message - "Windows
Update is looking for available updates... 0% complete".

Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks

I don't mean to sound rude or unhelpful, but why are you posting this here?
This group is for the discussion of hardware and hardware-related problems.
Why aren't you posting this in a Windows 2000 group? I have 20 on my server.
It's really in your own best interests as you'll find there are people
better able to assist you if you post in the correct place.

Find ?:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files and look for the Windows Update
Plugin.
You can right-click>properties any entries on this page to identify them.

Martin.

I've found some files in the Windows Update folder.. but then what do I do
with them..?

I can't update Windows..don't want to have to re-install the system again.

Should I change the properties?

Thanks

The Windows Update component that installs from the Microsoft Update pages
resides in the WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files folder.

If you uninstall it then go back to the Microsoft Updates, it should prompt
you to re-install it.
To uninstall it locate Update Class > right-click > Properties.
Does the info you get identify it as the Windows Update Control?
Look for windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
If you then right-click Update Class again this time choose Remove and
that's it uninstalled.

No guarantees - it may work for you.
