did you click on the program u wanna remove?
the buttons don't show up until a program is highlighted

The Uninstall option won't show up until you highlight the program to
remove.
Click on Norton 360 (or whatever it's called). Does the Uninstall option
appear?
If it doesn't appear, right-click on the Norton 360. Does Uninstall show
up?

Did you install Norton 360? If not, maybe you don't have permission to
uninstall it...

THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT A PATCH CORRUPTS THE UNINSTALL OPTIONS. I
have had this happen to me the only way to get the uninstall options back is
to reinstall the application or use a removal tool supplied by the company
of the product. Norton has a removal tool

Noaim--

A more helpful postwould have been one that

1) Listed the patch you allege is corrupting uninstall options. I know a
lot of people who have applied all patches to date and have no problems--so
the question is what are the numbers percent wise?
2) Listed any statistical evidence you have for this statement. Posting it
in capital letters doesn't confer any more legitimacy on it.
3) Linked any removall tools you know about.

I've seen posts on this patch, but it's not the same issue:

do you no where to find the removal tool? i didnt see it on their site, but
also none of my programs will show a uninstall option when they used too not
just norton, a question; do you think an instalation on top of another
anti-virus could cause more problems?thanks so much.

hi chad, just wondering if you could tell me what a 'patch' is? first ive
heard of it not suprisingly as im new to all this! but also do you know if it
could possibly have anything to do with the fact that i recently had trouble
removing a yahoo toolbar as it would not show up in programs and features but
was stii on my browser, so i reinstalled it then found it in programs and
uninstalled a second time, it then was gone, but im thinking that is when my
uninstall option dissapeared. there been a few days between yahoo and this
incident so im not positive it disapeared the same time or not. thanks to
all for any assistance!

As others have said, you'll probably have to re-install Norton to be able to
remove it.

Be aware that Norton is the barnacle of the software world. It is difficult
to remove. You'll have to visit Symantec's site and obtain their
sooper-dooper removal tool. Even then...

You should probably visit the registry and erradicate references to
Norton/Symantec.

Getting rid of Norton is like getting rid of a tattoo. It takes effort,
time, and expense. It even hurts. For a long time. And it's never REALLY
gone.

Lucinda--

1) Certain applications or programs may not uninstall from Add/Remove. Some
of the toolbars like Yahoo don't have an entry in Add/Remove and if you
click on the Yahoo toolbar (as I recall) there is a removal link that sets
up a removal wizard.

2) A Patch or Hotfix that's being referenced here is a bit of code that MFST
has written (other companies can issue patches for their products and do)
that is often to correct a security vulnerability and some people worry that
the patches can cause problems with the Windows OS after being installed.
That's what I thought you were referencing and why I asked for you to be
specific. This happens a lot less frequently than say 2-5 years prior.

hi everyone, well i tried to reinstall norton but could not because a message
appears that says" norton could not be installed on this computer because you
have a variant of this program already installed"actually that is not a qoute
but basically what it said, so i tried the removal tool( i found it) but
that says to open 360 then click on my account but the my account option i s
greyed out, i guess because it was a free trial and has expired, so now what?
do i use system restore? and if so will it remove pics that i put on after
that certain point? thanks for any suggestions!

already on my computer! any other suggestions ? THANK YOU!

yes sam i did and only found a clean up file but it could not be opened for
some reason ive also tried to restore to a point where all was well and the
uninstall is still not showing up! on further search i seen some posts that
say to highlight program you want to uninstall then push alt. which forces
the menu bar to show, then file and there should be a uninstall option there,
but on my list there is only -create shortcut-delete-rename-properties. still
looking for solution!

FYI- i was having trouble removing norton so i installed windows installer
clean-up utility. this did remove norton but it did not solve the problem of
my uninstall button missing. it has been suggested that reinstall programs to
get their uninstall buttons back but what can one do if it was a free trial
app. and the app. will not reinstall on top of a prior one?
