uninstall program

Normally when I uninstall a program I go into control
panel/programs-features and uninstall it. I tried to uninstall Forte
Agent(email program) and got the message "could not open INSTALL.LOG file".
There has to be another way to uninstall a program. I also have 2 programs
listed in programs-features that when I try to uninstall tells me it is no
longer located on computer. Help me fellows!!

The "INSTALL.LOG file" could not be opened. It means the file is missing
or the file cannot be opened in your user account. You might need
administrator priviledge. Most likely, the file is missing. If Forte Agent
has an uninstall program of it's own in the directory where you installed
it, you might try using that. Or, you may run the installer again to
uninstall it. Some programs can be uninstalled by running the installer.
When you run the installer, it may ask you whether you want to repair,
remove or freshly install Forte Agent. You have to select the remove
option. In the worst case, you can simply delete the directory in
administrator mode and run a registry cleaner to correct the registry
entries. Or you might try a fresh installation. And see if the file
"INSTALL.LOG" file is created with some contents in it. If it is, then
uninstall from Control Panel would work.
I also have 2 programs listed in programs-features that when I try to

Most likely the two installed programs have been deleted or uninstalled.
You may run a registry cleaner to correct the registry entries.

I reinstalled all 3 programs. 2 of them allowed me to uninstall afterwards.
Forte Agent allowed me to uninstall but it remained in the programs &
features list. When I tried to remove it again to get rid of it in list I
got the "could not open INSTALL.LOG file" again. I guess I'll have to live
with it. Thanks for your help. Who would have thought the solution would be
so simple.

Download and install CCleaner.

You can use it to take anything out of that list that you don't want.

Registry cleaning programs are *all* snake oil. Cleaning of the
registry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone and
don't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and
what vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of,
having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you.

The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously
removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit
it may have.

Actually Walter 'Revo' is a marvelous application when it comes to getting
rid of programs that like to stick around. Not only does it use the
applications own uninstaller to ensure that the uninstall goes according to
the program manufacturers' guidelines, but it also scans your registry for
any left over files relating to the program you are trying to uninstall.

I came to this thread rather late but Charles, in his reply, recommended
Revo just as I would have done had I got here earlier:)
