no thumbnails

The only time that I can preview a picture (thumbnail) is
if I move the pictures into my picture folder in the my
documents folder, and then only when I move my mouse over
the "thumbnail" will I see a preview in a small box to the
left. I know that if I go to the View menu I can toggle
thumbnail but this simply makes the Icon a little bigger,
and still no thumbnail view. As far as I knew if you had
pics in any folder and you wanted to view them as
thunbnails you just toggled thumbnail under the view
dropdown menu, right? Also when I double click on a photo
to expand it, it opens up in a program called M.S. Photo
Editor. It seems to me that this must be a very poor
quality program because any picture I view looks very
grainy and whats the english word for crappy? Anyways, I'm
using Win-2000 Pro with a voodoo3 card. What the heck is
Going on? #1:Why Can't I see thumbnails? And #2:Why the
crappy resolution in this M.S. Photo Editor

Kevin, I unfortunately don't have a resolution for your
thumbnail problem, but you might try re-constructing the
File type in Explorer to see if it is a Link or
association problem. While I like Photo editor, another
one that comes with your system will be kodakimg.exe, try
that and see if your picture quality improves. If it
doesn't, then I'd look at my display settings on my
desktop.
I also am having problems with getting a thumbnail view at
all, after an update, Good luck.
