No startup sound or shut down sound

for about 4 or 5 days now ive notice that there is no
startup sound when windows startup or shut down, ive also
notice that there is no recycle bin sound or no sound on
my ms messenger when ever i get a new email or alert, I
have check the sound in control panel and the options are
checked and i can hear it when i press preview, all my
other sound appears to be okay, i can listen to music and
stuff,

can anyone help me Please
