no standby or hibernate

From fresh install of XP I have no standby. The button on
the shutdown screen does not even light up. How do I fix?
 
go to control panel 'power options'. you should see a box for enabling
hibernation.

once it's on the screen you can change between hibernate and 'stand by' by
holding shift key down whilst clicking the icon
 
what if you have no 'hibernate' box under 'power
options'? i don't....
