NO SOUND

I've read a number of posts about loosing sound. My
problem coincided with the Windows XP Home Service Pack 2
download. It was fine one day, the next, no sound from
Media Player, Real Player or Jet Audio. I haven't tried a
CD yet, but will do so next.
I just spent the last hour trying to find a way to get
help from Microsoft, but was directed around and around in
circles. Like the othher posters, HELP please.
 
My experience:
System sounds, gone. Ability to play cd's, gone. Task bar
& start button, gone. Printer now not installed. Driver
disk not recognized. Cannot interrupt boot to get to safe
mode. Call back from higher level support person now
5Hours 26 minutes late. I can hardly wait to install SP2
on my wife's laptop that is networked to this box.
