no sound

I just had XP pro put in my computer, did all updates and
download any driver i needed. I dont seem to have any
sound. In "control panel" under sound devices it says
that i have Emu10kxaudio[C000] and when i click on
properties it says that the device is working properly. I
have my speakers hooked up properly, do i need to
download another (different sound driver) What do i do?

Did you check the soundcard manufacturer's website to see if they had
updated drivers for your soundcard and/or whether or not they are supporting
your card in XP.

Also, in the sound applet in Control Panel, did you check to make sure
nothing was muted?
