No sound

Im trying to get the sound back on my girlfriends computer, there is no sound appart from a beep which comes from the hard drive, now my girlfriend has said she may of by accident un-installed the sound device but i have checked and it is installed, but there is an explamation mark (!) beside it in a yellow triangle, so thats why i need some ones help im getting mad with the computer so if some one out there can help, thank you

Hi,

Go to device manager and check what is the brand name of the sound card and then go to the manufacturer's website to download the latest XP compatible drivers. If it is an on-board sound chip, go to the mobo manufacturer's website to download the drivers.

The yellow (!) means that the driver is installed, but something is wrong
with it. Can't remember where, off the top of my head, but somwhere in
System or Add/Remove Hardware or somewhere similar, there is the option to
troubleshoot your hardware installation (Sarch the online help for 'hardware
troubleshoot'), you should find it. This might help you work out the
problem.

Also, you could try just re-installing the sound-card drivers from the
original CD (or better still, see if you can download the latest version
from the suppliers web-site)
