I have a recently purchased Sony VAIO. All sound has ceased. I have remote speakers that have been installed since purchase and have worked fine lo these months. Now even the built-in speaker does not work. I have played with the volume controls, checked for driver errors and have navigated through the maze of useless System/Hardware Management/Restore options, to no effect. According to XP everything is as it should be

How can I outwit this Neandarthal and get my sound back?

If Kelly's info doesn't help, perhaps you have a hardware problem. Is
the VAIO a desktop? If so, try uninstalling and removing the sound card
physically. Put in a different, known-working sound card. Post back
with more information, such as the make/model of your current sound
card, if you need more help.

Happy Holidays,
