My IT friend gave me a computer he built and it works fine except the sound
has never worked, I bought some speakers today and they aren't working. The
speakers don't need a driver, so how do I figure out what my sound card is or
troubleshoot what may be wrong with it. I am going nuts! Thank you!

The speakers never need drivers, the sound card does!!
Try and install the drivers.

Click...start....control panel....system......then the hardware tab...next
the Device Manager button....look for sound, video and game
controllers....your sound device should be listed...click on it for driver
info
g/luck!
