I've been fighting the same problem for about 1 month now
with no luck. I've posted multiple times to this news
group (got the same response about "Where did my sound
go") tried the suggestions there w/ no success. I've
also traded lots of emails w/ varying support people at
Creative Audio (makers of my sound card) w/ no luck. I
did find an interesting footprint on my system. If you
go to the card under device mgr and select the card and
then go to the properties tab select the card and hit
properties device status states: Card is enabled but not
started. Unfortunately I have not been able to find
anyone that can tell me how to start the driver.

I checked event viewer and had no error messages about
services not starting. Can't use Net Start because I
don't know the driver name.

Anyone out there have a suggestion?

I am also having the same problem. No luck with any
troubleshooting so far.
