no sound

Just re-formatted my pc since a virus was detected..purchased a microsoft xp
home edition all was installed except cannot hear sounds when logging on and
off/games..ect, can hear sounds from windows media player..any one who can
help with how do i get sound and or what drivers do i need to install? thanks

Alternatively, go your PC manufacturers website and see if there are any
updated drivers that you are missing.
I have come across this problem before with a Compaq.
