No sound with wav-files (err 0x800-40256)

Mediaplayer 7.1(win98)says: no sound card or not installed
well.
Have sound integrated and can play audio-CD (autorun, but
no sound with Mediaplayer), and I cannot play wav-files
that I have recorded from line-in of CD.

Recently I reinstalled my PC and since I have this problem
(id did work formerly). Reinstallation again does help.

Who has a suggestion to solve the problem?
