No sound when applying headphones

This issue remains ongoing since I had Windows '98. Having upgraded to XP
(Home Edition,) the issue where I cannot listed to music through my
headphones exist. This, despite trying to rectify in Sounds and Audio
Advice and Advanced Audio Properties.

Is there a quick and/or easy fix so that when listening through headphones,
at least then, it would be 'Music to my ears.'

Thanks

Ps. Have updated to the latest version Windows Media Player. This being,
Version 11.

Hello there

The type is Sony CD450. I cannot pinpoint what type of jack it is. Only,
that I am trying to play this through my CD writer.

My CD's play fine. It's just when I plug the above headphones to this jack
that, no sound appears. This never used to happen with the same headphones.
As mentioned above.

My computer vendor tells me that this remains a common problem. There must
be a remedy in the software side to solve this issue and this is what I am
trying to solve with this forum.

Sorry if this reply has undermined you in any way.

If the jack in the CD is broken or not making connection then software
isn't going to fix it. If your computer vendor tells you it's a common
problem, then perhaps the CD drive hardware is provided by the lowest
bidder?
