Cannot play my headphones through Windows XP

I cannot play my headphones through my home edition of Windows XP. I am
wondering if there are any settings that can enable me to listen to music
via this method without disturbing my neighbours.

Are you plugging them into the sound card (most likely at the back of your
PC), or are you plugging them into the front output of the CD player? The
front one is only for the CD player, no other sounds will play through it.
 
there is a CD-Player Headphone Jack and there is a Headphone Jack placed in
the Front Section of your PC-Tower...mine is near the PLUG&PLAY
USB-ports...that is a connection for the sound card.
