No Sound in Speakers, yet still from headphones..?

I am having trouble with my sound system. I've always gone back and forth
between my headphones and speakers when listening to music, but now, when I
take my headphones out, I get no sound playing from my speakers. No music, no
start-up/shut-down sounds, nothing.. I've gone through the windows trouble
shoot to no avail, so any help would be appreciated. The speakers are the
kind that are embedded right on the computer monitor. Thanks in advance!

it sounds like the speakers or the amp is/are the problem. plug the
headphones directly into the back of the computer where you would
normally plug the speakers. if you get sound, the computer itself is
working fine. if you don't, well... you should get sound... keep us
posted.

May be a hardware issue, namely, a broken wire somewhere. I am assuming the
headset jack is somewhere independent of the speakers. It is also possible
that if the two are connected, something to the actual speakers has gone
awry. Problem is, to get it checked out and/or fixed, the whole monitor is
lost for the duration.
