no sound through sound input port?

i want to play my electric guitar through my pc so that i
can play to my friends and record stuff using software. i
know it wont work by directly plugging the guitar into
the input (have also tried this) so i plug the guitar
into the amp, then get a cbale and plug one end into the
headphone socket in the amp and the other end into the
sound input in the PC (so that it will get exactly the
same sound as the amp would give out as its coming from
the headphone socket but nothing comes out of the pc. i
have tried to adjust the sound settings but im not an
expert on that part. my friends have done this but ii
just cant seem to get it to work!

so has anyone got any ideas or any information on
downloads i need?

thank you very much

Make sure that wherever you'll plugging into is selected as the live input
port for your sound card. Generally you can only have one at a time, but
sometimes they're all muted by default.

Yeah. & if he knew how to do it he would have.
Right click the speaker icon near the clock & select "open volume control".
Click on "options" & then "properties".
Select "recording".
Select what he said....... most likely "line in". (or microphone if you want
to do it that way)

Good thing I wasn't giving driving directions, he's still be looking for the
key!

I'll blame it on worm overload.

Did you check out the different recording options like I told you? Turn them
all on? If that no help, you might need a special card for what you require.
Search for a more suitable group maybe?
