No sound - sound card not detected

Hello,

I have recently re-installed all of the Windows XP Home Edition software on
to my desktop PC. Everything seems to be working fine - except, I have now
discovered that when I try to play music through my iTunes or Windows Media
Player - an error message is displayed "No Sound Card Detected"

Not sure what to do - can anyone help please? I have look at installation
CDs and seem unable to find Sound Card related software? Is there anywhere I
can download this?

Help - lots of music but no sound!

Many thanks

You probably just need the driver. One thing that's omitted on most
fresh installs is the Chipset driver package. This is the software that
supports the components of the motherboard. Usually, the vendor is
either Intel, VIA or nVidia. This driver package should be installed
just after the instance of XP is laid down.
If the PC is an OEM ( HP, Gateway, Dell ) then you should get the
drivers for your specific model from them. Otherwise, to determine
what hardware is in your PC you can use a Inventory tool such as
Belarc Advisor.

The program will help you identify specific hardware. Then get the
drivers that match the hardware from the vendor of the hardware.
