ANON,
Open IE and go to Tools/Internet Options and click Advanced tab
at the top. Scroll down to Multimedia section and make sure there
is check in Play Sounds In Web Pages and click APPLY and OK.

i believe i saw a fix for this in the windows update. have you installed all the updates, not just critical? i believe it's under the other update section, not critical, so run the windows update from the homepage here at www.microsoft.com and see if that helps
