no sound on dvd

when i play a dvd in media player or winamp i get a picture but no sound. if
i play an audio cd the sound works fine. DVDs used to play fine but i have no
idea why they dont now. i have tried using the windows xp troubleshoot
section for sound but still no luck. any idea?
 
had the case open lately, there is a wire to bring audio to sound system, might have gotten disconnected

Maybe your DVD decoder is corrupt. Try reinstalling it.

You may need to update your Windows Codexes since it sime that a lot of DVDs
now use the DivX codex.
 
thanks carey frisch. i went to the dvd support site, downloaded a trial
version of nvidia and now it works. you are a champion!!!
 
I have same problem with my DVD's picture but no sound.
My audio CD's play fine.
Recently I installed ULEAD Video Studio 9. Afterwards my DVD discs would
give sound only pictures.
Frateful for any help on this .
