I lost sound apparently after installing Marine sharpshooter. 5 minutes before I had sound while playing AVP. No sound for games, CD player or MP3s.

Tried system restore....... no luck
Tried HP support:
deleted SB drivers in my computer/properties/Device manager Hardware. System found "new drivers and reinstalled hdrivers....... no sound
Tried installing a a file HO support suggested: SP24496.exe downloaded from their ftp site.... told me driver not found reboot and run setup again. Didn'r work the next time either.
Per support, edited sysoc.inf file to unhide multimedia. Went to Add/remove programs /add/remove windows components and reinstalled multimedia. Didn't work, still no sound.
Contacted Groove games and asked if any issues between game and SB live. Tech told me they don't install drivers that could affect sound card.drivers, and he is running a system simnilar to mine with SB Live! with no problems.
Reinstalled sound card drivers from SB website.

Computer is plugged into a stereo receiver. Receiver has sound when switched to FM station. No sound from either speakers OR headphones otherwise.

System description: Athlon 1800+, SB Live! sound card, ATI Radeon video card, WinXP, 512M RAM, 120G hard drive.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It turmed out to be the sound card.

I tried new speakers - didn't work
Reseated the card, still no sound, but it added an additional problem: the computer began hanging.m That pretty much meant the card was bad

Replaced the sound card and everything seems ok now

Thanks
