No sound in XP with SoundMAX audio device

Chris Vernier

Hello,

I have recently installed Windows XP on my brand new system (ASUS P4P8X SE).
In Device Manager, I successfully configured the SoundMAX integrated digital
audio device and it tells me NO CONFLICT ...

But I have no sound coming out of my speakers. I have uninstalled the
device, re-installed it, I even upgraded to XP SP 2 and no luck.

Has anyone heard of any issue like this one ?

Thanks for your help !

Mr. Vern.

chris,

did you d/l the new driver and did that work ?

i had an issue with the built in SoundMax audio on an ASUS AMD
motherboard that took 9 months to get working properly.

i would install the driver's, and they would work. great!!! then, as soon
as you'd re-boot, the sound wasn't working. device mangler said the
device was working properly, yet no sound would come out until i re-
installed the driver's. this happened from day one, the day i built the
machine (i wasn't to concerned because it was the wife's pc and not
mine:) i found no help for this for months and months.

i finally found one bit of advise that worked. i, or rather she, was re-
installing manually at every re-boot. luckily, it was days or even weeks
between re-boots. the fix was simple, go into device mangler, delete the
soundmax device from there, then re-boot. windows find's the driver at
startup and install them itself.

from that point forward, the sound has worked on every re-boot. odd.

regards,

DanS
