No sound in PowerPoint Viewer 2003

My brother made a PowerPoint presentation with slides set to MP3's using PPT
2000.
It played fine on older Win98SE using PPT Viewer 97. Copied all files to a
new Win XP
machine. When trying to play the show with PPT 2003 Viewer, it will play the
slides but
no music! I haven't found much in the way of support for PPT Viewer. Was
hoping someone
might know what I'm doing wrong or steer me in the right direction. Thanks!
Bob

You will want to use the old PPT Viewer to view the older file. PPT
2002/2003 and the new PPT Viewer handle animations and sounds differently
than PPT 97/2000 and the old 97 PPT Viewer did.
Here's the link to the old Viewer. It will run on WinXP.

I have a follow-up question. Although (I thought) my problem was fixed
because the presentation played correctly a couple of times after I used
the PPT 97 viewer. Now there are picture slides that are blank at random
times, and not always the same pictures. Did the "links" get broken when
it was copied to different drives? Is this what happens when the links are
broken? Any ideas how to fix? The sound works fine now, just random
slides missing... Thanks Bob

This actually sounds like a video driver issue. You might try turning down your hardware acceleration. http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00129.htm has instructions.

Also, make sure your images aren't overscanned. That will cause PPT and your system to have to work harder to show them. http://www.powerpointbackgrounds.com/powerpointgraphics.htm has good info on that.
