Hey CrazyDan
Do you get the start-up and shut-down sound from XP (I'm also on Pro) cause
I don't get those either.... it seems to be all Windows based sounds (they
test fine) that don't happen... all other sounds are fine!
PLEASE can someone help us with this! :)

You are right gecko.

Since my pc is always on, I did not test those sound events before tonight.
Just like you, mine does not work either. I will get in touch with Microsoft
tomorrow about this.

That would be great! It'll be nice to solve this problem... I have fixed my
other 2 problems so now I've only got this one left LOL

Want to try something weird?

Create a new user account, login to that account and play with the event
sounds. Under that new account I created, all sounds are working properly...
How about you?

Dan.

Thanks for the tip, Dan
Only thing is I don't get the option to create a new user account... I am
not on a network and only I use this PC... so I really don't want another
user account :)
I went where Help and Support pointed me to to "create new user account",
but there is no "new user" under the Action menu...

Any other ideas? LOL, to get my Win sounds back?

Hey Dan

Well, I don't know if you saw my last attempt in getting an answer from this
group re our problem?
"System Sounds missing"... after not getting a reply I decided to try the
fix from Kelly's page anyway and guess what???
I have my sounds back!!!! LOL

Have you tried that registry fix? I was nervous to make the change but it
certainly worked for me :)

Where is Kelly's page?

So far MS asked me to export the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents registry key
from another user profile into mine. It didn't work.

Hey Dan

This is the "fix" from Kelly's page, in case you haven't found it yet...
nothing about exporting anything...
try it...

"System Sounds are missing:

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key: HKEY_USERS. If it doesn't
have a Data entry in the right pane that reads: (value not set), double
click (Default) and delete it. If it does, check your HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21
keys for the same."

Mine hade "Drea" where it should have had (value not set) and as soon as I
deleted that it reverted to "value not set" and I had my system sounds back!

See what yours has...

Where I found the "fix" ... http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm
.... "Where did my sounds go?"

Good luck!
Andrea
