no sound - hardware conflict

Due to a wrong delete, I had to use XP repair to get windows to start at all.
However while the repair did fix the non start problem, it caused conflicts
that stopped the on-board sound to stop working. The device manager shows a
conflict on the Realtec device with two devices in the system, ATISMus,
High Precision Event Timer - both code 28.

I tried reinstalling the drivers, but that didn't work.

Any suggestions?

Go back to Device Manager and look under Sound, Video and Game
Controllers. Disable or Uninstall the Audio Controller/s . Restart and go
back into DM and see what shows up. Reinstall the drivers of the device
with yellow mark next to it.

As stated, I had already tried that.

I had cured the HPET problem by uninstalling everything listed as a
conflict. Forgot to mention that update in the last message. Beyond that
still no sound and conflict only on Realtec and code 10 on the device.

Incidentally I am running 2 hard drives on this computer, the other hard
drive is working perfectly.

To anyone else who has this type of problem I found the solution from help on
Gamebooners. It seems repair deletes the service packs. Re-installing the
service pack completely cured the problem.
