No sound from browsers or email

If I use an mp3 player to play files all is well.

If someone sends me a link to something like youtube or a wmv file to
view from email, I get video, but no sound.

I've checked and Windows Media Player 10 has wmv files associated with
it. Both in IE and Firefox.
