No sound capturing AV from VCR

Hi,

I am new to Movie Maker and am becoming frustrated!

Running XP MCE 2005 with Hauppauge 150MCE PCI card.
I have connected a VCR to the AV inputs on the 150.

Using the Hauppauge apps I can view and hear a playing tape.
Using Movie Maker I can see the video but there is no sound.
I have checked obvious things like volume control
and worked through a lot of combinations of options in WMM.

Can anyone suggest a way forward?
