I have similar problem as posted by mike on 6/2/2005. But in the registry
value given on the link prescribed does not match. When I opened regedit and
clicked on HKEY_CURRENT_USER, I got the value as "(Default) REG_SZ"
instead of <no value> REG_SZ. In the link they asked to delete this, what
to be deleted. Anybody can help me to solve the problem?

So, you want us to try and find the message, that is more than a year old, to see what you are referring to???

Why not just paste a copy of the message here?

Extremely sorry, Ronnie.
The actual problem is - my computer doesn't make any sound during startup
and shutdown, other sound for closing of programe or mails etc it is working.
I tried from control panel also but the problem remains same. I was searching
this problem faced by other members thats why I am referring the thred dated
6/2/05

I downloaded the tweak and run but it still doesn't worked. When i double
click the file it opens in notepad.

If this is a .reg file, don't double click the file. Right click the file and select Merge from the popup menu. You should see a message asking if you want to merge the registry file, click Yes.

I did the same, neither it asked when I right clicked the 'merge' nor it make
any changes to the problem.

Just highlight HKEY_CURRENT_USER in the left pane, and then right-clic
on the word "(Default)". Choose to delete it. You will receive a messag
that all values could not be deleted and the entry will be rewritte
correctly by XP.

This solution usually works when all system sounds are gone, usuall
from the installation of an older Nero version or some Corel software
So it may not work in your case since it seems that you still have som
system sounds. But it won't hurt to try it
