Sounds STILL a problem

Ok.. I have scrolled through all the sound problem messages here and have
applied the 2 fixes from kellys corner.... still no system sounds (start-up,
shut down etc)
I have tried
2. Click HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
3. Check for a value in the right pane that looks like this:
<No Name> :REG_SZ:
..... but when I go to HKEY.... there are so many options to look under I
don't know where to start... the obvious being sound, but I don't see the
above mentioned...

PLEASE can someone give a total non techie here some help? :)
Thank You!!
Andrea

System sounds are produced as internal beeps and dings thru the internal
2" speaker and not your external speakers. Are you getting any sound using
your CD-Rom thru WMP, Jukebox or WinAmp? If not, your soundcard may be
bad or needs to be reinstalled with your Utilities disk that came with your PC
when you purchased it. Please repost with more info for I do not know what
you have been told in previous posts, and could not find any in relation to
your sound problems.

I haven't posted this problem before, I went through some really old posts...
and found quite a few that were the same problem as mine...

"Windows XP Sound themes stopped working" was one...
"no sound in messenger" is another one... but no solution on that one...
"no sound in any program" is another...

"Windows sound scheme problem... " is exactly my problem too - in fact one
you replied to...

Anyway, to answer your question, yes I have sound on all Windows unrelated
things.... so I know it's not my sound card

So some simple advice would be welcome LOL... that registry thing freaks me
out LOL

thanks ...
