No sound after 2000 to XP installation

Not sure what's happening here. I did an installation of XP from 2000 pro. I
deleted the partition containing 2000 in order to be able to install XP. XP
boots up totally normally but there is no sound. I checked in the control
panel under sounds and audio devices and there are no devices listed under
either sound recording or sound playback. There is this device called MPU-401
listed under MIDI music playback which is the default device, but it doesn't
show up in the other 2 sections.
I wonder if I deleted the drivers when I deleted the 2000 pro partition?
There are audio drivers listed, but not sure what they mean.

The drivers for 2000 are not necessarily the same as the drivers for XP.

You need to download XP drivers from the web site of whoever it is that made
your audio system.
