No ScanReg

I'm new to XP. Only a few days. I notice that there are no entries for ScanReg
in Msconfig. I assume that some new function is now at work. What is it and
does it show in Msconfig?

The only facilities availabe ot protect the Registry (that
comes with Windows) is the System Restore function.
System Restore runs as a system service. To view its
status open the Services Management Console.
Start > Run... > "services.msc" or Start > Control Panel >
Administrative Tools > Services.
ERUNT is a third-party program that can create backups of
the Registry files.
NOTE:
The Windows NT Registry is located in:
%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\Config and consists of 5 files:
SYSTEM, SECURITY, SAM, default, SOFTWARE
