what is scanreg?

After deleting some virus files i am unable to boot up, even in safe mode.
It is saying i need to use scanreg to correct the registry/config` error.
Can anyone help me with how to do this please?

Hi,

You must be running Win98. Scanreg is not available in WinXP.

The folks over on the Win9x newsgroups would be glad to help you out

No, thats not it, now i am more confused.
i am running xp pro,i have a second HD on a caddy that had ME installed on
it. I have removed the caddy and tried to reboot again.

It now says i have a Sec Master HDD error
Press F1 to resume,
It then gives me a boot failure
