No save to in IE6

J

John Barnett

When downloading a file/program in IE6 I do not get the
Save To option, the file downloads but I don't know where
to and when the download is finished I get a blank screen
with a small box in the top left hand corner that has a
square a triangle and a circle in the square.

How do I get the save to back please and what is the
probable cause.

What file type?

If it is only .exe files, then read on and see if this is relevant:
You may have an invalid plugin.
Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading Internet Explorer
[Q303401]
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303401

Remove the plugin with Regedit.exe
Start-Run-Regedit.exe
Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting it as a
normal safety precaution.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe

If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has been installed.
The key does not normally exist.

If not only .exe files, try this:
Blank Web Page with Placeholder Icon and You Cannot Save a File to
Disk

I tried your suggestion's but none worked
unfortunately, however, I have resolved the problem, this
problem was caused by a program called Free Download
Manager, the plug ins were overriding IE but not actually
catching the download as it is supposed to, so installing
the FDM restored IE6 back to it's normal setting.

So folk's if you are having the same problem not being
able to save downloads in IE6 and have a program called

FREE DOWNLOAD MANAGER this program may be causing your
problem.
