HELP?-AFTER INSTALLING SP2 ON MY HP A642N AMD64(RUNNING ON WINDOWS HOME32),IT
WILL NOT RESTART-STARTS TO READ DVD DRIVES,THEN ITS STUCK ON THE BLACK SCREEN
OF DEATH-THIS IS MY ONLY PROBLEM-SHUTS OFF FINE-HIBERNATE,ETC.-I MADE REAL
SURE I PREPARED TO THE FULLEST BEFORE INSTALLING-DEFRAG,DISABLE ALL
PROTECTION,DOWNLOADED ALL PRE FIXES-I FOUND AND FOLLOWED A MICROSOFT PAPER
SAYING START IN SAFE, INT. ONLY, ECT. TO SEE WHERE THE PROBLEM LIES, BUT GOT
ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF ARTICLE WHERE IT SAID "IF YOU'VE REACHED THIS
POINT, THE PROBLEM IS PROBABLY S NOT STARTUP RELATED-ANYBODY?

NEWBIE-BEEN COMPUTING FOR A GRAND TOTAL OF 23DAYS-

You should enter the BIOS,install xp cd,select to boot to the cdrom device
with xp in it,exit BIOS,at info screen select recovery, press enter for
password,
then type:CHKDSK C: /R When its thru type:EXIT Remove xp cd,let xp boot-up.
At some point change back in BIOS to select C: drive as 1st priority.

try getting to safe mode & do a system restore - else be prepared to use the
recovery partition that's built into your pc to do a destructive recovery -
just make sure the only thing attached is the monitor/keyboard, & mouse.
other wise you can hp india at 1 - 800 - hpinvent. good luck with the
language barrier.

How to use the Automatic Recovery feature to recover your computer if
the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup program is not completed
successfully:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=875355

Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select "Last known good configuration" at the menu.
If that fails, reboot tapping F8 again this time choosing Safe Mode.
Then System Restore to Date/Time before issue started:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore

Otherwise perform a Repair Installation:

When you are ready for SP-2, follow the Service Pack Installation
Checklist:

Also, Please do not use ALL CAPS in newsgroups.
ALL CAPS is considered shouting and rude.

U GUYS ARNT GONNA BELIEVE WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM-AFTER TALKING TO HP,
MICROSOFT, THESE POSTS-ALL IT WAS IS THE SECURITY SETTINGS IN IE6-I WOULD
NORMALLY NEVER CHANGE THE SETTINGS, BUT JUST A LITTLE WHILE AGO, I WAS
GETTING SICK OF THE WHOLE CONTROLX THING, SO I CHANGED IT TO ENABLE-ALL OF
THEM, SO i'M NOT SURE WHICH PARTICULAR THING WAS STOPPING RESTART, BUT IT
WORKS FINE NOW, I WOULD HAVE NEVER EVEN KNOWN, EXCEPT I WAS A LITTLE LATE
HOLDING IN THE POWER BUTTON FOR 5SECS AFTER A DOWNLOADED PROGRAM TRIED TO
RESTART-AS I SAID, I ENABLED THE WHOLE LIST IN CUSTOM SETTINGS-SCRIPT-ALL OF
IT, SO ITS SOMETHING IN THERE-I CANT BELIEVE I'M THE ONLY ONE THAT HAD THIS
PROBLEM SO THAT ALL THE TECH SUPPORT COULDNT HELP?-THATS SAD--

SORRY JONES-I didnt know-thanx for informing me-I wont use all caps anymore
