No ports visible in server properties dialog

M

Michael Dobala

Hi everyone,

on a W2K server with SP3 and a lot of installed network
printers I cannot view the actual printer ports in the
server properties dialog (Start - Settings - Printers).
The list is completely empty. As well as I try to install
a new printer and I have to assign the printer port to the
printer the list of ports is empty.

I installed SP3 again and restarted the server. No way.

What's wrong?

I have seen this when performing remote administration but never locally.
If this is in fact the remote admin case you have hit the RPC max size
default in Win2000.

You can increase this size by adding a registry key. If you only recently
started hitting this, setting this to dword decimal value of 2000000 should
be plenty. If you're planning on adding another 100 printers, up it to
3000000
HKLM\System\CCS\Control\Print

Add DWord

MaxRPCSize

(This value will change depending upon the type of printer and number on the
server).
