Mike

I recently purchased a Maxtor 80GB HDD to replace the 40MB
Western Digital drive in my PC. I'm running XP Home
edition with 512MB of ram and an Athelon processor.

I used the software that came with the Maxtor drive to
create a bootable image of my current C drive. After
configuring the Maxtor to be my C drive and trying to boot
from it (BTY, master/slave settings are all correct), I
get an error message saying the OS cannot be loaded. I've
tried the many suggestions from the newsgroup (e.g.,
running XP Repair Console, etc.), but still no luck. I
can access all the content on the Maxtor through Windows
Explorer, I just can't boot from it.

What I have discovered is that there is no avialable space
on the Maxtor to create a pagefile, and I think this is
the root of the problem. I have followed Microsoft's
methos to manually set Virtual Memory (as outlined in MS
article 307886), but the system keeps telling me that no
space is available for VM.

How do I address this?

Thanks!

I don't believe any currently available HDD comes with cloning software for
XP. Use Norton Ghost also.

I have used this one for 2 years and have cloned many Hdd
with it. Give it a try, you'll see. Proof is in the boot.
