Lately when I boot up sometimes I don't hear the POST
beep and then I get a blank screen rather than an
Operating System. I reboot again and the same thing
happens. Sometimes It takes up to 3 or 4 reboots before
it finds my OS to load. Why is this? It is obvious my
OS is there. Why doesn't it boot up straight away? Any
help thanks.
WIN XP PRO with all updates installed and 640MB SDRAM.

Tim.

hardware issue.

Start with the video card and memory. Make sure everything is secure on the
monther board.

Hardware problem, could be anything from a mouse to a
motherboard. You must be an English bloke, eh ?

Sounds like your HD is going out on you. I would make a image backup very soon and see what happens. Or go down to Office Max and buy a new one for 50 bucks. HD's useable life is about 4-5 years then you are running on borrowed time

before you jump into buying another hdd, run diagnostics on the hdd.if the manufacturer did not supply you with one, try to look for one in google. if the hdd passed, most likely the mbr is damaged. do a fixmbr or fixboot. if this does not resolve it, reformat your drive

Nothing to do with your OS sounds like it is not picking up your agp card I've seen the problem a few times, just open the case reseat it and all should be well

Sorry, but this is poor advice.

1. As others have said it is a display adaptor problem since there is no
video at all. If it were a hard disk problem there would be one of
several messages on screen relating to that, such as "Disk boot failure"
or "Operating system not found".

2. Modern hard drive life expectancy is a mere 3.5 years, not 4 to 5 years.

No it is not bad advice because it just happened to my brother in law. He taught his Video was bad then a MOBO, but in the end it was a bad HD

Look at the Tim's question, if it does not even get to the post the hard
disk is not even in play. Tim gets nothing, his quote: "I don't hear the
POST
beep and then I get a blank screen" A bad hard disk will not cause a no
post. If the disk was bad he would at the very least get the video card info
and some bios info and a chance to get into the bios upon booting. So
replacing his hard dive would be very bad advice.
