No open program buttons on taskbar

Somehow while changing settings on my computer I must have
caused Windows XP (Home) to stop showing my oipen programs
as buttons on the taskbar. Thios means when I minimize
them I can reopen the same instance of a program by
clicking on the takbar button. How can I repair this?
