No mouse or keyboard

I just loaded a Microsoft Optical mouse onto my Windows
2000 Professional system. Rebooted the machine and now I
lost my keyboard and mouse input. The mouse and keyboard
does not work with safe mode either. When I do the
recovery mode with the startup disk or in dos mode the
mouse and keyboard work fine.

I can't seem to find anything in the Knowledge base about
the optical mouse causing my problem. But I sure could
use some help.

I am using PS2 style.
Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical USB and PS/2 Compatible,
With Intellipoint 4.1 software.

From recovery console, remove Intellipoint 4.1, and then reboot.
apply latest software (Intelli[point 5.0) from

also you can try to connect via USB, if you have usb port.
and check device manager.
