No mouse or keyboard input in XP every 2:nd boot!

I've got a problem!

Every 2:nd time i start/reboot my computer there is no mouse or keyboard
input recognized in Windows XP. No error messages either!
No input works, the computer has not locked up since the screen-saver starts
after a while. Both keyboard and mouse is completely "dead".
So i just press the "reset" button on the computer to have it reboot. When
rebooted the mouse and keyboard works again, until i reboot/restart Windows
again.

This occurs every 2:nd time i have my computer started or rebooted and is
extremely annoying.

I've checked for hardware/driver conflicts but cannot find any.

This problem appeared since i had been using a non-optical mouse and a
different keyboard during summer holidays, and now when i switched back to
the optical mouse and original keyboard this happened.
I've tried removing the drivers in the control-panel to try and re-install
them but with no luck.

I have Windows XP Home Edition SP2
AMD Athlon 2800+
512 Mb RAM

Please help! I have been searching everywhere for a solution!

You have not mentioned whether or not the keyboard/mouse is USB or PS/2? It
would help in trying to guide you to a possible solution to know which type
of connections they are using.
