no more room on c drive

I am running WinXP home and have all current updates including service pack
2. My c drive is a FAT32 and has 15.5 GB total with 4.88GB available. I
also have a d drive which is a NTFS with 40.2GB total and 40.0GB available.
My problem is that I keep getting a notice that says that my C drive is
getting full and that I should clean up unused items to make more room.

I want to know if I can move any programs to my D drive and free up disc
space that way? I am worried about changing anything and not having them
work. I would like to move my bigger files to the D drive, such as large
game programs and photo programs, I just got a epson photo printer and want
to put it on the d drive also.

Is there a way to do this? And also is there a way to have new programs
automatically install on the d drive instead of the c drive.

You would have to uninstall any programs you want to move and then reinstall
on the other drive. I would move the games. You will have to change the
path for any updates, but that is usually just a browse function.

I doubt very much that it's Windows and your program files that have
filled up your drive C:. It is most likely your data, which you should
move to drive D:. Use one of these tools to get a good idea what's
eating up your disk space:

Hello LindaP,

You might also have to much hidden data in your "restore points". Clean it
out or save it to another media or drive.
Also clean out your temporary directory. There is one for windows and one for
every browser you use...
Try to defrag your drive That might help too...

No, defragging a disk does NOT free up any space. It merely
reassembles the various file fragments. Try it on your own machine
to see for yourself!
