I have a work laptop logging on to a domain at work. when I take the laptop
off the network, and I try to log on (not to 'this computer') I get the error
'no logon servers available' How can I fix this? I have a roaming profile,
win xp?

thanks

If your profile is synched and it hasn't been too long since you had an
actual connected logon, you should log right in. After a while (long time)
your "cached credentials" will expire and you'll need to actually connect to
the network. I log on to my laptop (using my domain logon) for weeks at a
time without ever connecting to the work LAN.

thanks kurt,
how would I know if it has synched or not. The fact is when he logs on, it
says he is a roaming profile user. Should it read local instead?
thanks

Richard makes a good point here. Cached logons can be disabled in a policy.
There's no way around that one. Also, roaming profiles are generally copied
from the network location to the local computer so that cached logons will
work even with the roaming profiles. But that, too, can be disabled, or My
Documents and such can be redirected and offline files disabled so there's
no local copy.
