No Logon Server Available

When logging on at a Windows 2000 client machine, I
receive a message that a mapped network drive cannot be
reconnected because no logon server is available to honor
the request. This happnes sporadically to most Windows
2000 client pc's on my network. Could anybody give me a
hint to what might be the issue?

Thanks,
Bob

Presume you have an active directory domain?

This can occur due to DNS misconfiguration. All servers and workstations
should specify the internal AD-integrated DNS server's IP address in their
network settings. The AD-integrated DNS server should be set up with
forwarders to several public DNS servers for external resolution.

See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300202 for more
info.

Thanks for the information. I have made the changes
suggested but there are a few clients that still
sporadically receive the following message:
"Microsoft Windows Network: Logon Failure: The Target
Account Name Is Incorrect"
Any idea what may be causing this error?
Thanks again,
Bob

Does the ipconfig/all on the clients show that everything is pointing to
your server-IP? Have you got options 003, 006 and 015 in DHCP-server, Scope
options?
