No keyboard or mouse

since a recent reboot my W2K Pro workstation no longer has a keyboard or mouse. everything else on the system seems fine. if I access the CMOS on boot the keyboard and mouse work fine so there is no problem with the hardware. once the systems displays the message "starting Win 2000" about 2-3 seconds later they both stop responding and the system continues to boot successfully.
Booting into safe mode gives the same symptoms, and last known good doesn't solve it either
any clues will be much appreciated

I have the same exact problem..The keyboard works right up until windows starts..then kb & mouse are gone...Anyone have a fix? Same problem when booting into safe mode.
