No .jpg and .psd preview

J

Joe B.

I recently reformated my computer. Before all my .jpg
and .psd files on my computer showed previews of the
file. Now it shows an icon for all .jpg files and an
unknown file icon for the .pdf files. I can change the
icons of the jpgs to other icons but not to a preview.
How do I get previews for these file types on my
computer? I can change the view in folders to thumbnail
(icon view still does not have previews) but on my
desktop they are all the same icon and I can't tell what
they are witout reading the title or opening them.

Hi Joe,

It appears that you have lost your jpg association and that is preventing
the thumbnails from displaying.
Please try the following:

Start -> Run -> regsvr32 %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll
Close and reopen the window and click on the Thumbnail view.

It should now display thumbnails. I would suspect that it fixes your .psd
issue as well.

Hope this helps.

I tried it with no results. I could always view a
preview through the view->thumbnail in folders. When it
is set to view->Icon, I used to be able to see the
preview too only at the size of a normal icon. Since I
can't change the view of jpegs and .psd files on my
desktop, they are always in icon view and never show the
preview.

I was also confused by "Close and reopen the window and
click on the Thumbnail view." Which window were you
refering to?

THanks for the help so far,
~Joe

Hi Joe,

I understand what you are saying now. Adobe Photoshop writes its on icon
extractor that does thumbnail overlays on files that are associated to it.
I read below that you had reformatted. Did you reinstall Adobe Photoshop
after doing so?
