I have a small network running upto 3 laptops and 3 desktops (not all at the
same time).
The main desktop is connected to the internet through a NTL cable modem, and
is conected to a 5 port netgear switch. All machines can see each other and
are able to transfere files, but cannot access the internet.
The main unit has 2 network cards, 1 for the modem and the other for the
switch. On running "ipconfig /all" on the main machine I get for the cable
moden an IP, Subnet, Gateway, DHCP and 2DNS address, and for the LAN an IP
and Subnet address. On the other desktop the "ipconfig /all" gives an IP,
Subnet, Gateway, DHCP and a DNS address, where the Gateway, DHCP and DNS are
the IP address for the main desktop.
All machines are running XP Home, but only the main desktop is running SP2
the others are on SP1. All have Client of MS Network, File and Printer
sharing, QoS packet, NWLink NetBIOS, NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS and TCP/IP
checked.
I have run the wizard for home network setup and used the floppy disk on the
other machines, but still no joy.
Any ideas why the other machines are unable to access the internet?
