no internet ie6 but opera ok

Hello

WinXP sp1, cable modem, ie6, oe6

Suddenly ie6 wouldn't connect - email is OK. Opera browser loads all
windows. But ie6 gives error
"This page cannot be displayed
Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer"

Security set to low, cookies all enabled, won't work when all security is
turned off.
Have reinstalled winxp and ie6 - currently 6.0.2800.1106.etc

Can anyone suggest anything for this annoying problem (besides using Opera -
there are some things it doesn't do well).

Thank you for these links. We tried lots of things on these pages. In the
end we knew that it must be a security setting somewhere because we could
get through to the bank but nowhere else. Anyway, a teenager loaded a
programme that is supposed to stop access to unsuitable pictures, set up
the security, then reversed it all and voila, it worked. I am sorry I
can't be more specific to help anyone else. We must have spent 6 hours
going through the list on the mvps.org page - be great to help someone
else but not sure how the programme changed the settings back.
