ie6 wont connect. Opera will

After a tidy up,when I log on (56k) ie6 goes straight to dns error,
without even attempting to connect.
Opera 7 was working fine until I downloaded and installed the java
enabled version. (now that won't work either
But I can access the internet with kaazaa.

I've tried reinstalling, and repairing ie6 but to no avail, restored
an old registry, compared settings with my laptop. No joy

Everything else works. What can I do next?
If I reinstal windows, will that solve it?
Seems a bit extreme...

Thanks

Tony

With Kazaa came the parasites and they will keep coming.

I've done some of the above, and am working through it. No joy so
far...

I upgraded Opera to the Java-enabled version, and that doesn't work.
- so it isn't necessarily an IE 6 problem.

I sed IE6 to automatically dial up when I start it, which it does, but
even then it still can't connect.

How does IE6 connect to the web when it works? What files are
involved? Why is it that simpler browsers can connect despite my
current problem, but not the more sophisticated ones? Whats the
difference?

Thanks

Tony
