No Internet Connection - Microsoft Updates

How do people with no internet connection obtain and apply MS updates?

There was some suggestion that MS has a world wide magazine that each month
supplies these updates via its cover CD and DVD.
 
Updates used to be avilable via a free cd on many PC mags, but MS
stopped/prevented this some time ago, for reasons best known to themselves.
MS supply sp's on cd, you'll have to search the MS site for contact details,
I believe they now charge a P&P fee

Have a friend download them for you and burn them to a CD.

The problem of course, is that you should do this at least once a month, and
friends will sooner or later get tired of it.

However, the other side of the coin is that most updates are
security-oriented, and although the need for security updates doesn't go
away if you don't have an internet connection, it's certainly not as
critical. So perhaps you could get away with doing it less frequently than
once a month.

Thats what had me puzzled, I don't think the public can't
download a bunch of updates ?

The MS update site checks your PC for what it needs and
only offers whats missing on the individual PC, so friends
machines may only offer some updates initially.

Thats what I was thinking, maybe the updates are mainly
internet security patches, and machines not on the internet
probably can even go with out them.

It would be good for MS to re-introduce the MS update
magazine again.

How did you get here if you have no internet connection? OK, it could
be dial-up.

Anyway, since nearly all the updates relate to security issues, you
can do fine without them on a machine that never does internet. Just
don't open email from people you don't know.
 
Ok, thats confirmed,

No internet, so don't really need updates for those machines.

Just found my old copy of the MS XP "Official" magazine,
issued under licence to MS Corp, I think its still available
in some countries.
